The project was supported by renowned partners such as PHILIPS, SIEMENS, STILL and the Fraunhofer Institute and was funded with a total of 31.05 million euros. IMOCO 4.E enables significant progress in the intelligent use of electronic systems for autonomous transport vehicles
Cologne, 01.10.2024. Nuromedia GmbH from Cologne announces the successful completion of the IMOCO 4.E research project. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well as by the European Union through the research incubator ECSEL (Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership).
The three-year project (09/2021 – 08/2024) was supported by 45 renowned international partners from 13 countries from industry, research and services. The aim of IMOCO 4.E. was to enable intelligent transport vehicles to move completely autonomously in a production hall or warehouse system, avoid obstacles and find their way intelligently with the help of AI and modern sensor technology and communication.
To achieve these goals, a reference platform was developed for advanced industrial automation in the field of machines and robotics with moving elements that also enable safe human contact. A particular focus was placed on the aspects of energy efficiency, variable movement speed, precision, adaptability and self-diagnosis. The basis for this is provided by real-time synchronisation of the respective system with a digital twin as well as analysis, control and continuous optimisation using artificial intelligence (AI) methods.
Edge intelligence with standardised interfaces was developed for the project. The decision control is based on artificial intelligence and thus supports fast signal evaluation of the sensors. The technology can be used in the areas of chip production in semiconductor packaging, in industrial robotics and in the healthcare sector.
As part of the project, Nuromedia GmbH was tasked with optimising human-machine interaction for autonomous transport vehicles. To this end, NUROMEDIA realised a digital twin of the autonomous transport vehicles and the warehouse so that an AI can be trained or built using this data. Another NUROMEDIA application was a ROS (Robot Operating System) capable simulation of a warehouse in virtual reality and on the desktop.
