The COOLCUT research project is co-financed by the ERDF/JTF programme of the EU and the state of NRW. Project partners include the Fraunhofer-Institute and the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen.

Nuromedia GmbH announces the start of the COOLCUT research project. COOLCUT stands for ‘COllaborative laser system with Optical diagnostics of Life-threatening bone tumours for structure-preserving CUraTive maxillofacial surgery’.

The three-year project started on 01.08.2024 and ends on 31.07.2027. COOLCUT is co-financed by the European Union as part of the ERDF/JTF programme in North Rhine-Westphalia and by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The aim of the project is to develop a technology for the minimally invasive and precise removal of bone tumours in the jaw area under real-time control of laser spectroscopic tumour tissue detection. A robotic system with navigation control and a complex sensor system including data integration and processing will be developed for realization.

In addition to NUROMEDIA, COOLCUT’s project partners are the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at RWTH Aachen University Hospital and EdgeWave GmbH.

Nuromedia GmbH’s task in the COOLCUT project is to develop the AI-driven medical image data processing and operation planning, as well as to create the navigation and control system based on virtual reality technology. In addition, NUROMEDIA is realising the AI-supported adaptation of the guidance of the robotic assistance system.
